The Black-headed Bunting is distributed from Central Italy to Greece continuously along the eastern Adriatic coast. To the north it reaches Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine and to the east, south-eastern Russia, the Caucasus, Turkey, the Near East and west and central Iran. It winters in west and central India.

Given that this species is kept as a cage bird, it is difficult to determine whether the records below refer to wild birds or not.

1993: one male at Houmet Lane, Vale 19-22 June.

2000: one at Vazon 21-23 June.

2002: one at Ruette Braye SPP 22-25 May 2002.
