The breeding range of the Paddyfield Warbler extends from central Asia and Mongolia westwards through southern Russia into Romania and Bulgaria. It winters mostly in India and south-east Asia and is a rare autumn vagrant to Britain.

There is only one record of a first-year trapped and ringed at La Claire Mare on 19 August 1993. This is an exceptionally early date and coincided with small influx of Acrocephalus warblers including an Aquatic Warbler which was 30cm below it in the mist net at the same time!
